Queen’s College are the 2015 Co-operators General Insurance-sponsored National Sports Council’s Secondary Schools Knockout Tournament champions after they edged Harrison College 60-57 in an overtime thriller.
Both teams picked up where they left off after rain forced the finals to be postponed last Thursday at the YMCA with just seven minutes left to play in the fourth and decisive quarter. When play resumed this morning Harrison College led 40-36.
It was an intense encounter between the two schools who took the game down to extra-time after the scores were locked at 53 at the end of regulation time. Shooting guard Makaari Jones ended with a game high 21 points for Queen’s College along with 15 each from Gavin Howard and Rasheed Arthur. Read more
Unfortunately for Harrison College their go-to-guys Raphael Howard and Christan Holder who both looked good throughout the competition fouled out within those seven minutes when play resumed today. Howard finished with 17 points and Holder 11 and that undoubtedly hurt Harrison College who did well on Thursday to come from behind against Queen’s College who led the first quarter 17-14, then Harrison College came from behind and locked the scores at 26 in the second quarter and took the lead 38-36 in the third.
Queen’s College mounted a comeback in the fourth period and outscored the Crumpton Street school 17-13 to lock the scores at 53. The battle was on in overtime and Queen’s College netted seven points compared to Harrison College’s four which sealed the game for coach Ryan Holford and his lads.
